Web Design: Build and Style Your Own Website
Every site you've ever visited is built from plain text files: HTML that says what's on the page, and CSS that says how it looks. Once you can read and write them, the web stops being magic and starts being something you can make.
This course starts from zero. Each unit explains one big idea in plain words, gives you a hands-on activity, and ends with a self-guided quiz. All you need is a browser and a text editor. No installs, no accounts.
Units
Unit 1
How the Web Works and Your First HTML Page
Follow a page from server to screen (URLs, DNS, HTTP and status codes), then write and open your first HTML page.
Unit 2
Styling with CSS: Selectors, Box Model and Color
Learn how CSS rules pick elements, how the box model controls spacing, and how to choose readable colors and fonts.
More units are on the way. Start with Unit 1; Unit 2 builds on the page you make there.
How it works
- Lesson: short sections, with every new term defined the first time.
- Hands-on activity: build something real in your own files.
- Live editor: try code right on the page. It runs in a locked-down frame and nothing is saved or sent.
- Self-guided quiz: five questions with instant feedback. Nothing is recorded.
